Why Choose STEAM Summer Camps
Summer is the perfect time for kids to explore, create, and discover outside the regular school-year routine. For families in Summit County, STEAM summer day camps offer K–6 students a hands-on, engaging way to keep learning fun. Rather than staying indoors or in front of screens, kids can jump into science, technology, engineering, art, and math through interactive experiments, creative projects, and group activities.
Top 5 Reasons to Choose Educational STEAM Summer Camps Over Other Day Camps
1. Learning and Fun Happen at the Same Time
Unlike traditional camps that may focus mainly on games or free play, STEAM summer camps combine hands-on learning with exciting activities. Kids explore science, technology, engineering, art, and math through experiments, creative challenges, and interactive projects, making every day both educational and fun. They keep kids mentally engaged and not just entertained.
2. Real-World Skills for Lifelong Learning
STEAM camps go beyond teaching facts. Kids build critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity, and teamwork skills. These are abilities they can use in school, hobbies, and even future careers, giving them an advantage that lasts well beyond summer.
3. Hands-On Exploration You Can’t Get at Home
At science and STEAM camps, kids use experiments, tools, and materials they might not have at home. Rotating through different activities and projects keeps each day fresh, engaging, and packed with unique opportunities to explore the world of STEAM.
4. Social Connections With Like-Minded Kids
STEAM camps bring together curious learners who share similar interests. While traditional camps focus on general play, STEAM-specific programs encourage teamwork, collaboration, and communication. This helps students build friendships while learning in a supportive setting.
5. Boosts Confidence Through Achievement
Completing a project, like building a working model or conducting a successful experiment, gives kids a tangible sense of accomplishment. This builds confidence in their abilities to tackle complex tasks.
Akron Fossils & Science Center’s summer day camps run for seven weeks each summer, Monday through Friday, starting in early June. We offer seven different STEAM-related themes each year. Families can choose the Morning Session (9 am – 12:30 pm), Afternoon Session (1:30 – 5 pm), or All-Day Session (9 am – 5 pm). For extra convenience, Before Play Care and After Play Care are available for an additional fee. This flexible schedule helps parents fit STEAM learning into their summer plans and gives kids a full, enriching experience.
At our STEAM summer day camps, learning feels like an adventure. Campers move through stations called Discover, Observe, Create, Play, and Snack, each designed to spark curiosity and keep them interested. With hands-on experiments, interactive learning, and art-inspired science projects, kids explore STEAM in fun and memorable ways. Every activity is age-appropriate and helps each child learn and grow at their own pace.

Hands-On Learning That Sparks Curiosity
Our rotation system gives campers a variety of activities each day. At Discover, they try new science experiments and demonstrations. In Observe, they look closely at the world, ask questions, and record what they find. Create encourages innovation and creativity with arts and crafts projects. Play is for recreation and outdoor fun, including our 2-acre play park and, for those who choose it, a ride on our 200-foot zip line. Snack time lets kids recharge, socialize, and get ready for the next activity. This mix keeps every day fresh, engaging, and full of hands-on learning.

STEAM summer camps are about more than just experiments; they help kids grow. In small groups with kids their own age, campers learn teamwork, collaboration, and critical thinking. They get to try new things, make discoveries, and see their ideas come to life. By the end of each week, campers leave with a deeper understanding of STEAM subjects, boosted confidence, and a love of learning that lasts all year.
